Description

This is an advanced course to GSM network planning. The course provides audience with adequate knowledge to proceed on basic network planning. Topics to be covered are introduction to link budget calculations, frequency planning principles, cell capacity planning, signaling (SDCCH) capacity considerations, radio parameters and fine tuning, paging capacity, radio features, PCM interfaces planning, IP interfaces planning (Abis over IP, A over IP), SS7 signaling planning. Also case studies, project descriptions and exercises will be presented enlighting more the basic principles of this topic

 

Learning objectives

On completion of this course the participants will be able to:

  • Perform basic link budget calculations
  • Define necessary margins on the cell planning
  • Perform cell capacity planning
  • Perform frequency planning
  • Calculate necessary SDCCH capacity per cell
  • Calculate necessary Location Area Planning and Paging capacity
  • Use radio parameters and features to improve planning
  • Calculate narrow band (PCM) planning
  • Calculate necessary bandwidth for All-IP network solutions
  • SS7 signaling capacity planning
  • Case studies and exercises on planning and dimensioning

  

Target audience

The target audience for this course is:

Engineers and technicians that are working with GPRS/EDGE wireless technology.

 

Prerequisites

The participants should have successfully completed the course, “GPRS/EDGE basics” or have equivalent knowledge

 

Duration and class size

The recommended length of the course is 4-5 days. The maximum number of participants is 16. However it is easy to adapt the course length to the actual needs, thanks to the modular structure.

 

Learning situation

This course is based on theoretical instructor-led lessons given in a classroom environment.
